Today we did quite a bit of driving through Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa stopping in Minnesota to sleep. Chicago looked very cool but the traffic was absolutely ridiculous so we decided not to stop there since we had no idea where we were going and didn’t want to deal with driving in the city. Rural Illinois was very scenic, however. We deviated from I-90 to take route 20 through the rolling farm fields, which was a great choice. The small town of Galena, Il was a nice historic little place. Also, Dubuque, Iowa — where we crossed the Mississippi — was a really nice town. Tomorrow we hope to make it to the west side of South Dakota to visit the national parks and Mount Rushmore.
